Obama ‘puzzled’ At Annual Turkey Pardon – Cnn.com

The two 20-week-old turkeys will enjoy a much more tranquil Thanksgiving than many of their fellow fowl, as they’re headed to “Turkey Hill” the historic turkey farm at Morven Park, the Leesburg, Va., home of former Virginia Gov. Westmoreland Davis, according to the White House. There, they’ll be on display for visitors seeking a second-degree brush with the president. Though the event is meant as an opportunity for the president to express a bit of Thanksgiving cheer, it’s not without controversy. Earlier this month, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals called on Obama’s daughters to encourage their father to end the “offensive turkey pardon” and go vegan for the holiday. But the tradition, which the National Turkey Federation says has been around since President Harry Truman, went on.

Obama rebuffs immigration hecklers – CNN.com

Obama told the protesters it “doesn’t make sense to yell at me right now,” given his immigration action last week. “What you’re not paying attention to is, I just took an action to change the law,” he said as the crowd applauded. The interruptions continued, with Obama saying at one point that he’s “not going to be able to have a conversation with each of you separately” and later that they should “just sit down.” “Nobody’s removing you. I’ve heard you. But you’ve got to listen to me, too,” he said.

Obama administration sets stricter smog standard – Yahoo Finance

“Burning buildings, torching cars, destroying property, putting people at risk … there’s no excuse for it,” Obama said in Chicago, calling for anyone found guilty of involvement to be prosecuted. “Those are criminal acts,” Obama added, while expressing sympathy for minorities who felt laws were not being enforced “uniformly or fairly.” Obama urged parties aggrieved by events in Ferguson to work peacefully to achieve change, saying the case had exposed “an American problem.” “The bottom line is nothing of significance, nothing of benefit results from destructive acts,” he said. “I’ve never seen a civil rights law or a health care bill or an immigration bill result because a car got burned. “It happened because people vote. It happened because people mobilize, people organize — it happens because people look at what are the best policies to solve the problem.” Politics & Government

Obama’s immigration actions neglect business pleas | TribLIVE

In 2011, amid pressure from Republicans and industry, and facing a battle for re-election, Obama reneged on a plan by then-EPA administrator Lisa Jackson to lower the permissible level to be more protective of public health. “Seldom do presidents get an opportunity to right a wrong,” said Bill Becker of the National Association of Clean Air Agencies, one of numerous advocacy groups that were enraged by the White House’s decision to table the first proposal. Although the EPA is proposing a range of 65 to 70 parts per billion, the agency’s scientific advisers have endorsed a standard as low as 60 parts per billion. The EPA said it would take public comments on that lower level, too, leaving the door open to the possibility of even more stringent standards. The agency will also seek comments on the current standard of 75 parts per billion. The initial range of 60 to 70 parts per billion proposed by the EPA in January 2010 would have doubled the number of counties in violation.

As for the spending request, some Republicans said they would have to review the details. “We’re going to take a look at it. This is clearly a huge crisis,” said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers, a Republican, called the situation on the border “extremely dire” and said that additional funding clearly would be needed to care for the children, enforce the law and secure the border. “Our committee will focus on providing what is necessary,” said Rogers. Immigrant advocacy groups, however, worried the package placed too much emphasis on enforcement and on deporting minors.

Obama to Meet Texas Governor Perry on Immigration Crisis – Bloomberg

He said Tuesday he doesn’t accept the results of the fraudulent vote. White House press secretary Josh Earnest said the process of judging the fraud allegations must be allowed to conclude. “The preliminary results are not final or authoritative and may not predict the final outcome,” he said. Obama Seeks Nearly $4 Billion for Immigration Crisis

The administration plans to increase detainment and boost court capacity to speed decisions, expand law enforcement and prosecution of criminal networks, seek greater cooperation with Central American countries and increase the amount of housing, care and transportation while migrant cases are judged. Most of the children crossing the border unaccompanied by a parent probably wont qualify for humanitarian relief and will be deported, Obamas spokesman said yesterday. Legal Basis Its unlikely that most of the kids who go through this process will qualify for humanitarian relief, which is to say that most of them will not have a legal basis, Earnest said. He said courts, in most cases, would rule that migrants dont have a legal reason to be in the U.S. In Congress, Republican senators said theyll seek spending cuts to pay for a funding request, while the administration is seeking to treat the request as emergency spending, which would add to the deficit.

SEE ALSO: PRUDEN: When atrocity invites atrocity in Middle East He wrote, NBC News reported: All parties must protect the innocent and act with reasonableness and restraint, not vengeance and retribution. Stocks Stay Lower After Gdp Report – Nasdaq.com

You’ll Never See Your Stocks the Same Way Again! – NASDAQ.com

The Commerce Department announced that gross domestic rose 3.5 percent in the third quarter, better than the 3 percent forecast by economists. It comes just one day after the Federal Reserve ceased monetary stimulus amid “solid job gains” and “a substantial improvement in the outlook for the labor market.” That kind of language is consistent with higher interest rates. Equities had rallied into the Fed’s announcement, with the S&P 500 retracing most of its selloff in late September and early October. The big question now facing investors is whether to expect another pullback and further consolidation, especially with major economic reports like the Institute for Supply Management’s manufacturing index and non-farm payrolls due next week. In addition to GDP, weekly jobless claims totaled 287,000, slightly worse than the 283,000 estimate.
